Ayushya Homam is the fire rite for longevity and recovery from illness, invoking Lord Ayur (the deity of life-span) and Lord Dhanvantari (the deity of medicine). Performed on a child's birth tithi each year (Janma-Tithi Vrata), on the elder's birth-nakshatra each month, before a major surgery, or as a long-life rite during the running of a Maraka dasha. The Sushruta Samhita and the Atharva Veda are the principal sources.

- The rite is birth-nakshatra-specific. The ahuti count and the supplementary mantra change with the yajamana's natal nakshatra. The pandit will ask for the birth nakshatra (or full birth details to compute it) before the booking.
- The Ayur Sukta and the Dhanvantari Mantra are the two principal recitations. The Ayur Sukta is from the Atharva Veda; the Dhanvantari Mantra is from the Markandeya Purana.
- Til (black sesame), ghee, durva and palasha samidha are the principal offerings. The classical count is 1008 ahutis; the household form uses 108.
- The rite is also performed for newborns within the first year (Janma-shanti) to remove any Janma-nakshatra dosha identified at birth.

Ayushya Homam is the textbook rite for longevity and recovery, prescribed in the Sushruta Samhita Sutrasthana as a supplementary measure during severe illness. It is also the canonical rite for the annual Janma-Tithi Vrata of a child (Yajurveda tradition). The Markandeya Purana frames the rite as the principal countermeasure to a chart-identified Mrityu yoga or a Maraka dasha period.
