Press and methodology

The charts and calendars are computed rather than copied. Positions come from the Swiss Ephemeris, through our own compute layer, so a date on this site is derived from the same astronomical data an almanac is derived from, not transcribed from another site.

For the Hindu calendar that means the intercalary month, adhika maasa, is accounted for rather than ignored, which is the usual reason two sites disagree about a festival by a month. We compute tithi, nakshatra, yoga and karana, and from those the muhurat and choghadiya windows.

One honest limit, which matters if you are quoting a time. Panchang timings are local. A tithi begins and ends at a different clock time in Chennai than in Delhi, and traditions differ about which end of a day a festival attaches to. We compute for the location you ask for, and our published festival list follows the all India almanac convention. When a regional tradition differs, both can be correct, and we would rather say so than pretend to a single answer.

Charts use the Lahiri ayanamsa and the sidereal zodiac, which is the standard for Vedic astrology and the reason our positions differ from a Western horoscope by roughly 24 degrees.
