ಈ ಪೂಜೆಯ ಬಗ್ಗೆ
Satyanarayan Vrat Katha is the most widely performed home puja in domestic Hindu households. It is dedicated to Lord Vishnu in his form as Satya Narayana, the Lord of Truth. The puja is described in the Reva Khanda of the Skanda Purana, where Sage Suta narrates the rite to the assembled sages at Naimisharanya. It is traditionally performed on a Purnima (full-moon day), on Ekadashi, or at any auspicious turning point in the family, such as a new house, a new job, a child birth, recovery from illness, or the fulfilment of a vow taken before the Lord.

- Held to be the simplest of the major Vishnu vratas: the only mandatory limbs are Sankalpa, Kalash Sthapana, Panchamrit Snan, Shodashopachara Puja and the recitation of the five-chapter Katha.
- Five chapters of the Katha each illustrate the consequence of forgetting or honouring the vow. Reading all five aloud is part of the rite; abridging it is considered a flaw.
- The prasad (sheera or sapatha bhog made from wheat flour, ghee, sugar, banana and milk in 1:1:1 ratio) is itself part of the puja and must be distributed to at least five people including a Brahmin.
- The puja is performed without any astrological pre-condition. Any family member, of any varna, of any age, is eligible.

The Skanda Purana records that the Satyanarayan Vrat removes obstacles in domestic life, restores marital harmony, supports recovery from illness and brings stability in business. The vrata is classically prescribed on completion of a difficult phase or in fulfilment of a promise made during distress. It is not a wish-granting rite in the manner of Tantric homas; it is a vrata of truth-keeping and gratitude.
