Budha-Aditya Yoga
Mercury joined to the Sun in one house.
Budha-Aditya Yoga is one of the most frequently observed yogas in Vedic charts because Mercury, by orbital geometry, never travels more than about 28 degrees from the Sun and is therefore often in the same 30-degree sign. The yoga forms when Mercury and the Sun share a house. Saravali and Jataka Parijata describe the pair as learned, sweet in speech and well regarded, though Saravali opens the same verse with service and unsteady wealth. Note that the name Budha-Aditya is later usage and does not appear in Brihat Parashara Hora Shastra.
Budha-Aditya Yoga എങ്ങനെ രൂപപ്പെടുന്നു
Budha-Aditya Yoga forms when the Sun and Mercury are in the same house in the rashi chart. Same sign, same house, regardless of degree separation, qualifies. The yoga is independent of the absolute house: it can form in any of the twelve houses, and the house location modifies its expression. Sun-Mercury in the 10th gives public-recognition intelligence; in the 5th gives creative-academic intelligence; in the 9th gives dharmic-philosophical intelligence.
ജാതകന് ഉണ്ടാകുന്ന ഫലങ്ങൾ
Effects on the native: sharp practical intelligence, analytical clarity, success in fields where careful thinking translates to recognised influence (academia, journalism, advisory roles, public administration, software, finance), articulate speech with authority backing it, and the unusual gift of being both correct and listened to. Many notable analysts, advisors, public intellectuals, and senior administrators show Budha-Aditya.
ബലം നൽകുന്ന ഘടകങ്ങൾ
Budha-Aditya is strongest when neither planet is closely afflicted, when they sit in a friendly or own sign, and when the house location supports the yoga's expression. Sun in Leo with Mercury close (own-sign Sun, friendly placement for Mercury) is favourable. Sun-Mercury in Virgo (Mercury exalted, Sun in friendly sign of friend Mercury) is one of the strongest configurations.
ഭംഗവും പരിമിതികളും
The chief practical limitation is combustion. Mercury within 14 degrees of the Sun is combust (asta), and 12 degrees when Mercury is retrograde, the arcs given in Surya Siddhanta and reproduced in Santhanam's table of combustion degrees in his notes to BPHS Ch. 7. BPHS 7.28-29 grades a planet by its distance from the Sun on a sliding scale: full effect in the 7th from the Sun, good effects destroyed at identical longitude, proportion in between. That rule works directly against the condition that forms this yoga. Mercury beyond 14 degrees from the Sun in the same sign gives the cleanest Budha-Aditya. Affliction by Mars or Rahu weakens it further.
മൂലരൂപം
The Budha-Aditya archetype: the policy advisor whose memos shape decisions, the academic whose papers are widely cited, the public intellectual whose analysis lands, the senior journalist whose editorials are read. Not the passive scholar; the publicly-influential analyst.
പരമ്പരാഗത ഗ്രന്ഥങ്ങൾ
Saravali Ch. 15 v.4 (Sun-Mercury Yoga) reads: "If the Sun and Mercury are in one House, the native will be in service, will have unsteady wealth, be sweet in speech, will have fame and money, be noble, dear to king and good people and will possess strength, beauty and learning." Varahamihira in Brihat Jataka gives skill in work, intelligence, fame and comfort. Jataka Parijata Ch. 8, on conjunctions of two or more planets, gives learning, beauty, strength and fixed views. The name Budha-Aditya appears in none of the Parashari corpus: the words Budha-Aditya, Budhaditya and Nipuna do not occur anywhere in Santhanam's translation of BPHS. The reading is classical, the label is later.
Budha-Aditya Yoga നെക്കുറിച്ചുള്ള പതിവ് ചോദ്യങ്ങൾ
How is Budha-Aditya Yoga formed?+
The Sun and Mercury must be in the same sign, and therefore the same house, in the rashi chart. No degree condition and no dignity condition is part of the definition. On whole-sign houses, as normally used in Indian practice, same sign and same house are the same statement.
Is Budha-Aditya common?+
Yes, very. Mercury is never more than about 28 degrees from the Sun and a sign is 30 degrees wide, so a shared sign is close to a coin flip across charts. The yoga is common enough that it explains little on its own; the degree gap and the dignity of the two planets carry the reading.
Is Budha-Aditya Yoga in Brihat Parashara Hora Shastra?+
Not by that name. The words Budha-Aditya, Budhaditya and Nipuna do not appear anywhere in Santhanam's translation of BPHS. The classical descriptions of the Sun with Mercury in one house are in Saravali Ch. 15 v.4 and Jataka Parijata Ch. 8.
What does Budha-Aditya Yoga give?+
Saravali gives service, unsteady wealth, sweet speech, fame, money, nobility and learning, in that order. Modern renderings usually keep the learning and drop the service and the unsteady wealth. In practice it reads as analytical intelligence that needs the rest of the chart to convert it into standing.
Why does combustion matter?+
Mercury within 14 degrees of the Sun is combust (asta), 12 degrees if retrograde, per the arcs in Surya Siddhanta. BPHS 7.28-29 puts effectiveness on a sliding scale by distance from the Sun, destroyed at identical longitude and full in the 7th from it. Since the yoga requires Mercury near the Sun, most instances of it carry that penalty.
In which house is Budha-Aditya strongest?+
The 10th house gives public-recognition intelligence; the 9th gives dharmic-philosophical influence; the 5th gives creative-academic gift. The 6, 8, 12 placements weaken the yoga's public expression.
