Kemadruma Yoga
Moon with no planet (other than Sun) in the 2nd or 12th from itself, and no planet in a kendra from itself.
Kemadruma Yoga is the classical lunar isolation yoga: the Moon stands alone, with no planet (other than the Sun, which is excluded by classical convention) in the 2nd or 12th house from itself, and additionally with no planet in a kendra from the Moon. The yoga gives a sense of inner aloneness, emotional struggle, and unsupported social position. Classical commentary treats Kemadruma as one of the more difficult lunar yogas, but with multiple cancellation rules that often defuse it.
Kemadruma Yoga എങ്ങനെ രൂപപ്പെടുന്നു
Kemadruma Yoga forms when (1) no planet other than the Sun sits in the 2nd house from the Moon, (2) no planet other than the Sun sits in the 12th house from the Moon, and (3) no planet sits in a kendra from the Moon (1st, 4th, 7th, 10th from the Moon). All three conditions must hold simultaneously. Many charts technically meet the rule but qualify for one of the cancellation rules described below.
ജാതകന് ഉണ്ടാകുന്ന ഫലങ്ങൾ
Effects on the native, when the yoga is fully formed and uncancelled: emotional isolation, difficulty maintaining stable mood, social disconnection, family or financial struggles in early life, and a tendency to feel unsupported even when objectively supported. Practice is more cautious than the texts are: Kemadruma is often over-prescribed, and most charts that technically show the rule actually qualify for at least one cancellation.
ബലം നൽകുന്ന ഘടകങ്ങൾ
Kemadruma operates against the native rather than for them; "strength" of the yoga in the negative sense increases when the Moon is also debilitated, waning, or closely afflicted by malefics, and when no cancellation rules apply. The yoga is strongest in its negative effects when the Moon is in a dusthana (6, 8, 12) without any cancellation.
ഭംഗവും പരിമിതികളും
The cancellations are worth separating by source, because they are usually quoted as one list. Phaladeepika 6.5 gives the only classical cancellation among them: "there are some who declare that there is no Kemadruma where a Kendra or the Moon is associated with a planet, or where planets occupy a Kendra house reckoned from the Moon". Mantreswara reports it as the view of others rather than asserting it himself. BPHS 37.11-13 builds the escape into the definition instead, since a planet with the Moon or in an angle from the ascendant prevents the yoga forming at all. The further cancellations in common circulation, the Moon aspected by Jupiter or Venus, the Moon conjunct a benefic, and a full Moon by paksha bala, are practitioner rules without a verse behind them in these three texts. Most natal charts qualify for at least one, which is the real reason Kemadruma is over-diagnosed.
മൂലരൂപം
The Kemadruma archetype, when uncancelled: the deeply introverted native who feels disconnected from family and peers, who experiences emotional struggles disproportionate to their objective circumstances, who finds genuine companionship slowly. The cancellation shifts this archetype toward someone who learned solitude early and converted it into capacity.
പരമ്പരാഗത ഗ്രന്ഥങ്ങൾ
Kemadruma is in BPHS at 37.11-13, in the Lunar Yogas chapter with Sunapha, Anapha and Duradhara, not in the Chapter 36 collection. BPHS gives the native as much reproached, bereft of intelligence and learning, and reduced to penury and perils. Saravali 13.2 defines it and 13.7 gives the result, which is harsher still: deprived of food, residence, clothing and friends even if born to a royal line, suffering poverty, grief and sickness, living by hard labour. Phaladeepika 6.5 defines it and 6.7 gives the result, and 6.5 is the one place among the three that records a cancelling view. None of the three texts warns against over-diagnosis. That caution is modern and it is a good one, but it should not be put in Kalyana Varma's mouth.
Kemadruma Yoga നെക്കുറിച്ചുള്ള പതിവ് ചോദ്യങ്ങൾ
What is Kemadruma Yoga?+
Kemadruma Yoga is the lunar isolation yoga: the Moon with no planet (other than the Sun) in the 2nd or 12th from itself, and no planet in a kendra from itself. It signals emotional isolation when uncancelled.
Is Kemadruma always bad?+
No, and it is often over-prescribed. Multiple cancellation rules exist, and most charts that technically show the configuration qualify for at least one cancellation. Always check the cancellation rules before treating Kemadruma as severe.
What cancels Kemadruma Yoga?+
Five cancellations circulate, and they do not carry equal weight. BPHS builds one into the definition, a Moon in a kendra from the Lagna. Phaladeepika VI.5 reports three more as the view of others: all planets in kendras from each other, the Moon in a kendra from the Lagna, and planets occupying a kendra reckoned from the Moon. A strong Jupiter or Venus aspect on the Moon, a benefic conjunct the Moon, and a full Moon by paksha bala are practitioner conventions with no verse behind them.
What does uncancelled Kemadruma indicate?+
Emotional isolation, difficulty maintaining stable mood, social disconnection, and a tendency to feel unsupported. Therapy, regular sleep, and family connection support the native more than ritual remedies.
How is Kemadruma diagnosed correctly?+
By checking all three formation conditions AND all five cancellation rules. Careful practitioners warn against panic-diagnosing Kemadruma without checking the cancellations, though that caution is modern rather than something the texts themselves say. Vidhata's chart engine checks both.
