Saraswati Puja is the worship of Goddess Saraswati, the goddess of speech, learning, music and the arts. The principal occasion is Vasant Panchami (Magha Shukla Panchami, falling in late January or early February). Saraswati is the consort of Brahma in the Brahma Vaivarta Purana and the daughter of Brahma in the Devi Bhagavata Purana. The Saraswati Stotra from the Brahma Vaivarta Purana and the Saraswati Vandana from the Yajurveda are the two principal recitations.
મુખ્ય મુદ્દા
- Vasant Panchami is the canonical day. Vidya-Arambha (the child's first writing of letters) is performed on this day at the Saraswati altar.
- Saraswati is worshipped without metal idol where possible. The classical form is a book, a musical instrument and an inkpot placed before a white framed image. Tantric households use a silver or panchaloha vigraha.
- White is the colour throughout: white cloth, white flowers (jasmine, mogra, lotus), white sweets (kheer, malpua, boondi).
- The rite is also performed in homes with children preparing for examinations, before a musical or artistic recital, and at the formal opening of a new school or library.

Saraswati Puja is the textbook rite for academic success, artistic development and clarity in speech. The Brahma Vaivarta Purana frames her as the goddess of all four Vedas, and her worship is therefore the foundation for the study of any classical or contemporary discipline. It is the most appropriate puja before the start of a new school year, a new course, a thesis or a new artistic project.
