Griha Pravesh is the Vastu rite of entering a new dwelling for the first time. The Matsya Purana and the Vishvakarma Vastu Shastra describe three forms of Griha Pravesh: Apurva (first entry into a newly-built house), Sapurva (re-entry into a house left vacant for a period), and Dwandwa (re-entry after a fire, flood or other inauspicious event). The rite consecrates the boundary, the threshold, the kitchen hearth and the family deity corner before the family takes their first night of sleep inside.

- Muhurta sensitivity is non-negotiable. Griha Pravesh requires a clean Chandra-bala for the head of household, a favourable nakshatra (Rohini, Mrigashira, Uttara Phalguni, Hasta, Anuradha, Uttara Bhadrapada and Revati are classically preferred), and a tithi outside Chaturthi, Navami, Chaturdashi or Amavasya.
- The Vastu Purusha Mandala is honoured before any other limb. Cardinal directions are checked, the brahmasthan (centre point) is left clear during the rite, and the agnikona (south-east) is where the kitchen rite is performed.
- Kalash carrying by the lady of the house, threshold breaking of the coconut, milk-boiling on the new chulha, and Lakshmi-pad chinha (footprint stencils) on the floor are all canonical sub-rites.
- Avoid scheduling on Adhik Maas, during Pitri Paksha, during personal Sutaka (mourning) periods, and during the Dakshinayana for first-time Griha Pravesh of a newly-built house (Apurva form is classically Uttarayana-only).

धर्मशास्त्र अनुसार लाभ
The Vastu Shanti dimension of Griha Pravesh stabilises the dosha-charged energies disturbed during construction (Bhumi Khanan dosha, Vastu Purusha pinning). Classical Vastu texts hold that Apurva Griha Pravesh without consecration leaves the dwelling open to recurring quarrels, financial leakage and infant illness. The complete rite is the textbook countermeasure.
