The five limbs
Panchang means “five limbs”. Together they describe the quality of the day for ritual, work, and decision. End times are the exact moments each limb gives way to the next.

Local tradition
Notable temples
Kashi Vishwanath Temple holds the Mangala arati at around 02:30 in the morning, the earliest among the major Jyotirlinga temples. Annapurna Mandir, Sankat Mochan Hanuman Mandir, and Durga Kund Mandir all keep daily panchang-tied arati schedules.
Regional festivals
Dev Deepawali on Kartik Purnima, when the ghats are lit with diyas, is Varanasi's most distinctive observance. Maha Shivratri at Kashi Vishwanath and the Ramnagar Ramlila over thirty-one nights in Ashwin month are the other major draws.
Daily observance
Varanasi is the historical seat of the Kashi panchang authority and many north-Indian printed almanacs still cite Kashi tithi end-times as the reference.
Astrological heritage
Banaras Hindu University houses one of the few academic departments of Jyotisha in India and continues to publish panchang and muhurta research.
