Yes, you can buy a car on a Monday, and Monday is in fact one of the four weekdays that vehicle muhurat treats as preferred, along with Wednesday, Thursday and Friday. Monday belongs to Chandra, and a Chandra day suits a purchase you want to feel settled and well received at home. The two weekdays to avoid for a vehicle are Tuesday and Saturday. Sunday sits in neither list, so it is workable but not favoured.

That is the short answer. The longer answer is the one that actually saves you from a bad Monday, because the weekday is only one of the five limbs of the panchanga, and it is not the heaviest one.

Why Chandra makes Monday suit a vehicle

Chandra governs the mind, comfort, the household and easy movement. A car is a household object as much as it is a machine. It carries your family, it sits outside your house, and the feeling you have about it on the first day tends to be the feeling you keep. A day ruled by the Moon suits that kind of acquisition.

The two avoided days show the same logic in reverse. Tuesday belongs to Mangal, who carries accidents, sharp edges and disputes, which is the last signature you want on a machine that moves at speed. Saturday belongs to Shani, who carries delay, wear and things that stop working. Neither is a superstition about the day itself. Both are about the quality the day lends to a first act.

What still spoils a Monday

This is the part most weekday pages skip. In the scoring that runs behind Vidhata's vehicle muhurat finder, a preferred weekday is worth a modest bonus. A bad nakshatra is worth nearly four times that as a penalty. So a Monday can score badly, and it does so regularly.

For buying a vehicle, a Monday is spoiled by any of these:

• The Moon sitting in Bharani, Krittika, Ashlesha, Magha or Mula. Mula literally means root, which reads poorly for something meant to move. Krittika is the cutting star. These are the five to refuse outright.
• Chaturthi, Ashtami, Navami, Chaturdashi or Amavasya as the tithi. The Rikta tithis in particular, meaning the fourth, ninth and fourteenth, are avoided in both fortnights and not only in the waning one.
• Vishti karana, better known as Bhadra. This one overrides a good day on its own.
• Krishna paksha. It is a mild negative rather than a refusal, but between two otherwise equal Mondays the waxing one wins.

A Monday that carries Ashlesha and Chaturdashi is not a good day to buy a car. It is a bad day that happens to be a Monday.

Why one Monday is not like the next

Chandra is the fastest moving graha in the sky. It crosses roughly one nakshatra a day and finishes the whole circle in about 27.3 days. The weekday repeats every 7 days, the nakshatra cycle runs 27.3 days, and the tithi cycle runs about 29.5. Those three numbers never line up neatly, so the panchanga sitting under this Monday and the one sitting under next Monday have almost nothing in common.

That is the honest reason nobody can tell you Mondays are good and leave it there. The weekday lord is fixed. Everything stacked on top of it moves.

Choosing between two Mondays

Work down this order and stop when one of them wins.

First, the nakshatra. Take the Monday that falls on Ashwini, Pushya, Hasta, Chitra, Anuradha, Shravana, Revati, Uttara Phalguni or Uttara Ashadha. Ashwini ranks highest of these for a vehicle, being the horse nakshatra, the old symbol of a thing that carries you. Pushya is close behind and is favourable for almost any purchase.

Second, the tithi. The second, third, fifth, seventh, tenth, eleventh and thirteenth are the preferred ones.

Third, the paksha. Shukla over Krishna.

If one Monday has a preferred nakshatra and an ordinary tithi, and the other has a preferred tithi but one of the five refused nakshatras, take the first without hesitating. The nakshatra penalty is heavier than the tithi bonus by a wide margin, so the second Monday scores worse than an ordinary Wednesday would.

Buying and taking delivery are two different questions

People usually ask about the wrong one. The paperwork, the loan approval and the payment are commercial acts, and no classical rule cares much about the day you signed a finance form. What the muhurat is really about is the moment the vehicle first comes into your hands and first moves with you in it.

So book whenever the dealer can book. Then choose the delivery day yourself. Dealerships will offer you the day their stock clears, and you are allowed to say that you will collect on the following Monday morning instead. If the dealer cannot move the handover off a Tuesday or a Saturday, a common practice is to complete the formality on their day and keep the first real drive for the next favourable one.

One more thing worth knowing. The panchanga scoring ranks days, not clock times. Within a chosen Monday, the ordinary practice is to prefer the morning after sunrise and to keep clear of the day's Rahu kaal, which on a Monday falls in the second segment after sunrise and shifts through the year with the length of the day.
