Wedding Season Index · November 2026 to June 2027
Wedding Season Index 2026-27
We ran every day from 1 November 2026 to 30 June 2027 through the same rules our marriage muhurat finder uses, for 10 cities. New Delhi gets 19 days that clear every rule. The season opens on 25 November 2026, stops for Kharmas from 16 December 2026 to 14 January 2027, and stops again for Malmas in March and April.
Wedding days by city and month
Each cell counts the days in that month that pass every check: the Moon in a wedding nakshatra, no avoided tithi, no inauspicious yoga, no Bhadra, not a Tuesday or Saturday, and outside every seasonal pause. Totals run from 17 to 19. Jan 2027 is the busiest month, with 4 days in New Delhi.

The dates
These are the New Delhi dates, read at New Delhi sunrise. Nine of the ten cities get exactly the same list. Kolkata gets 17, and the last column says which two it loses and why.

Kolkata sees sunrise between half an hour and an hour before Delhi, depending on the time of year, so it reads the day earlier. On 31 January 2027 the Navami tithi (Krishna Navami) is still running at Kolkata sunrise, and Navami is avoided for weddings. On 21 June 2027 the Moon is still in Purva Ashadha at Kolkata sunrise, which is not a wedding nakshatra. This is the most common reason two honest lists for two cities differ by a day.
When the season pauses, and why
A good tithi and nakshatra are not enough. Traditional almanacs print no wedding dates at all in certain stretches of the year, however good a single day looks. Our engine computes these stretches from the positions of the Sun, Moon, Venus and Jupiter, and removes every day that touches one.
| Pause | Dates | What it is |
|---|---|---|
| Chaturmas (ends) | Until 20 November | The four months from Devshayani Ekadashi to Devuthani (Prabodhini) Ekadashi, when Vishnu is said to sleep. The 2026 Chaturmas ends as Devuthani Ekadashi begins on 20 November, and the first day that clears every other rule is 25 November 2026. |
| Kharmas (Dhanu) | 16 December 2026 to 14 January 2027, 30 days | The Sun in Dhanu (Sagittarius), a sign ruled by Jupiter. The month is kept for worship, not for new beginnings. It ends with Makar Sankranti, and the first wedding date after it is 15 January 2027 (Revati). |
| Malmas (Meena) | 15 March to 14 April 2027, 31 days | The Sun in Meena (Pisces), the second Jupiter sign. Many families call it Meen Kharmas. It produces the longest wait of the season: no date from 11 March 2027 to 26 April 2027. |
| Venus or Jupiter combust | None inside this season | When Venus (Shukra) or Jupiter (Guru) sits too close to the Sun it is "asta", set and invisible, and weddings wait for it to rise again, with three days of margin either side. Neither planet is combust between November 2026 and June 2027. By our fixed-orb rule the next Venus combustion window, margin included, opens on 4 July 2027, so early July 2027 is closed even before Chaturmas. Almanacs that go by the date Venus stops being visible start it later in July. |
| Chaturmas 2027 (begins) | From 13 July 2027 | Devshayani Ekadashi opens the next four-month pause. The last date in this index is 21 June 2027. |
Why one list shows 96 days and another shows 19
Wedding date lists online disagree, sometimes several times over. Most of that is not error. Each list applies a different set of rules, and the same sky gives very different counts depending on which rules you keep. Here is what happens in New Delhi for this season as we add rules one at a time.
- 96Moon in one of the eleven wedding nakshatras, nothing else checked
- 64and outside Chaturmas, Kharmas, Malmas and Venus or Jupiter combustion
- 25and no avoided tithi, no inauspicious yoga, no Bhadra (Vishti karana)
- 19and not a Tuesday or Saturday (our strict list)
A list near 96 has probably checked the nakshatra alone. One near 64 keeps the seasons but not the tithi or yoga. Ours is the strictest of the four. None of these is the one true answer. They are different questions, and a family that follows a particular pandit should follow that pandit's rules.
Three other things move dates. The city, as the Kolkata example above shows. Regional rules we do not apply, such as Holashtak in North India or Guru in Simha. And combustion: we use a fixed angular distance from the Sun, while some almanacs use the dates a planet stops and starts being visible, which can shift a combustion window by days or weeks. Inside this season that makes no difference, because neither planet is combust.
How we computed it
Planet positions come from the Swiss Ephemeris, with the Lahiri (Chitrapaksha) ayanamsa, the one adopted for India's national calendar. Each day is read at that city's own sunrise, using the centre of the Sun's disc, which is the panchang convention. A day is excluded from a seasonal pause if any part of it, sunrise to next sunrise, falls inside the pause.
The wedding rules are the classical vivaha rules of the Muhurta Chintamani: the eleven nakshatras (Rohini, Mrigashira, Magha, Uttara Phalguni, Hasta, Swati, Anuradha, Mula, Uttara Ashadha, Uttara Bhadrapada and Revati), the avoided tithis, yogas and karanas, the weekday bar, and the solar month rule that allows weddings only with the Sun in Mesha, Vrishabha, Mithuna, Vrischika, Makara or Kumbha. When we built the seasonal layer we checked its boundaries against the published 2026 and 2027 New Delhi vivah pages of Drik Panchang, and every Kharmas, Malmas, Chaturmas and Adhik Maas boundary day matched.
What this does not do: it does not fix a lagna (the exact ceremony time), and it does not look at the bride's or groom's chart. A date here is a candidate. The final muhurat depends on both horoscopes, which is what the personal finder and Ask Acharya are for.
Which of these dates suits the two of you?
The season list is the same for everyone in a city. Your date is not. The marriage muhurat finder scores the coming weeks for your own location, and Ask Acharya can check a shortlist against both birth charts in your own language. Both are free.

Questions
- How many wedding dates are there between November 2026 and June 2027?
- On our strict count, 19 in New Delhi and between 17 and 19 across the ten cities we computed. If you keep only the nakshatra and the seasonal pauses, New Delhi has 64. The difference is the tithi, yoga, karana and weekday rules, which some lists apply and some do not.
- When does the 2026 wedding season start?
- Chaturmas ends as Devuthani Ekadashi begins on 20 November 2026. The first day after that which clears every rule in New Delhi is 25 November 2026.
- Can we marry during Kharmas?
- Traditional almanacs list no wedding dates while the Sun is in Dhanu. This season that is 16 December 2026 to 14 January 2027. The first date after it is 15 January 2027.
- Why are there no wedding dates from mid-March to mid-April 2027?
- The Sun is in Meena (Malmas, sometimes called Meen Kharmas) from 15 March to 14 April 2027. With the dates around it this makes the longest wait of the season, 46 days from 11 March 2027 to 26 April 2027.
- Is Venus or Jupiter combust during this season?
- No. Neither planet is combust between November 2026 and June 2027. The next Venus combustion begins in early July 2027 by our rule, and Chaturmas follows from 13 July 2027.
- Why does my city have a different list?
- The panchang is read at local sunrise. A city that sees the Sun earlier can start the day while the previous tithi or nakshatra is still running. In this season that changes two dates for Kolkata and none for the other nine cities.
- Is a date on this list enough to fix our wedding?
- No. It means the day itself is suitable. The ceremony time (lagna) and the match with both birth charts still need checking. The marriage muhurat finder and Ask Acharya can help with that, free.
- Can I use these figures in an article?
- Yes. Quote them with a link to https://vidhata.app/wedding-season-index. That address is permanent.
